چکیده

Background Degenerative Mitral Valve Regurgitation (DMR) is a severe form of mitral valve disease for which the survival rate is poor if left untreated. Defining the optimal timing for surgery is challenging in spite of advances in diagnostic imaging. No sensitive measure of left ventricular dysfunction from CMR have yet been reported since the ejection fraction (EF) is usually preserved in DMR patients. However, to assess LV function, standard analysis of the Cine images only focuses on two timepoints of the cardiac cycle (end-diastole and endsystole), discarding more than 80 % of the available data. Available cardiac analysis software now allows the analysis of the entire cardiac cycle in a reasonable time, leading therefore to a full LV volume curve over time. The aim of this study is to assess the sensitivity of two indices extracted from the LV volume curve: the peak ejection rate and the peak filling rate.

High-risk Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and Mitral Valve Replacement in a HIV Positive Patient

Certain subsets of high-risk mitral valve patients are not suitable candidates for transcatheter therapies. The objective of this report is to present a young patient with combined mitral valve and coronary artery disease to illustrate these challenges. In this report, we present a 47-year-old man with longstanding HIV infection who was referred with severe mitral regurgitation (MR) and profound...

Right ventricular Hemodynamic Alteration after Pulmonary Valve Replacement in Children with Congenital Heart Disease

Introduction:  In patients who underwent surgery to repair Tetralogy of Fallot, right ventricular dilation from pulmonary regurgitation may be result in right ventricular failure, arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Hence, pulmonary valve replacement may be necessary to reduce right ventricular volume overload. The aim of present study was to assess the effects of pulmonary valve replacement on rig...

Mitral Annular Kinetics, Left Atrial, and Left Ventricular Diastolic Function Post Mitral Valve Repair in Degenerative Mitral Regurgitation

OBJECTIVE The relationship of mitral annular (MA) kinetics to left ventricular (LV) and left atrial (LA) function before and after mitral valve (MV) repair has not been well studied. Here we sought to provide comprehensive analysis that relates to MA motions, and LA and LV diastolic function post MV repair. METHODS Three-dimensional analyses of mitral annular motion, LA function, and LV volum...

The assessment of atrial function by velocity-encoded magnetic resonance imaging

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess velocity-encoded cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (Ve-CMR) in a population of patients referred for cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), to determine the variability of atrial function, and to identify clinical parameters associated with left atrial function. Methods: This is a prospective study evaluating patients who were referred t...

Magnetic resonance assessment of aortic and mitral regurgitation.

Magnetic resonance imaging provides an accurate method for the measurement of left and right ventricular volume. The ratio of left ventricular stroke volume to right ventricular stroke volume was calculated from contiguous transverse magnetic resonance images and was used to measure the severity of regurgitation in 18 patients with aortic regurgitation and 10 with mitral regurgitation. Cardiac ...
